FYE Designation
A first year seminar is designed to help students
begin their college careers, both in general education and in their discipline.
First year seminars must minimally attain the
following outcomes:
1.
Students will become familiar with the
University of Delaware,
their academic department, and the University's various student resources.
2.
Students will become aware that they are part of a
community of learners with whom they can share ideas and common interests.
3.
Students will recognize the importance of oral,
written, and general academic skills, including teamwork where appropriate.
4.
Students will know accepted standards of academic
ethics and can list important academic values.
5.
Students will understand college-level expectations
about their academic performance and their personal conduct.
6.
Students will have experience approaching faculty
and discussing important academic topics.
7.
Students' awareness of the connections between the
curriculum in their field of study and the wider world will be increased.
