RE:                 Transfer of the Department of Physical Therapy from the

College of Arts and Sciences to the College of Health Sciences

We acknowledge and endorse the unanimous vote of the faculty of the Department of Physical Therapy to transfer from the College of Arts and Sciences to the College of Health Sciences (May 5, 2008).  We also acknowledge and endorse the vote of the majority (71%) of the faculty in the College of Health Sciences to embrace such a transfer (May 20, 2008).  In doing so, we recognize that there is considerable programmatic synergy between Physical Therapy and Health Sciences.  We expect that the administrative move of the Physical Therapy Department from Arts and Sciences to Health Sciences will have a net positive impact for the programs involved and for the University.  The current academic program, Doctor of Physical Therapy, of the Department of Physical Therapy will continue to be offered without interruption.

We recommend that the transfer be implemented by January 1, 2009, or as soon as possible thereafter.
