List new courses required for the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?

(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)

No new courses required.  We are proposing to drop a required course which will allow students to have 4 more elective credits.  The revised curriculum will still meet the requirements set forth by our accrediting agency for dietetics.

Explain, when appropriate, how this new/revisedcurriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/

The revised curriculum will continue to support the 10 goals of undergraduate education as the major currently does.

This concentration revision is related only the mechanics of the curriculum and does not change the manner in which the 10 goals are already addressed.

Identify other units affected by the proposed changes:

(Attach permission from the affected units.  If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)

Biology Department will lose ~40 students per year in BISC208.

Describe the rationale for the proposed program change(s):

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

Deletion of BISC208 requirement

We have required BISC208 in our dietetics curriculum as it previously was a prerequisite for BISC300.  This is no longer the case.  BISC300 requires only BISC207.  Further, the course content from BISC208 is not required for our Dietetics majors to complete their degree based on the educational requirements of our accrediting agency (Commission on Dietetic Registration).  Therefore, we propose to remove this course from our curriculum and allow students to have 4 elective credits in their place.  Currently, our curriculum has very few elective credits.  This could allow students to more easily pick up a minor if they so choose.

Correction

There is also a correction to the listing for a course titled Food Science (was FOSC305, is ANFS305).

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
