Note: all graduate studies proposals must include an electronic copy of the Graduate Program Policy Document, highlighting the changes made to the original policy document.

List new courses required for the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?

(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)

KAAP475 is proposed as a new course for the purpose of renumbering 451.  No content has changed.

Explain, when appropriate, how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/

Identify other units affected by the proposed changes:

(Attach permission from the affected units.  If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)

The Chair of BHAN (Mike Peterson) enthusiastically supports this revision because the optional course from KAAP is appropriate for the minor and allows workload flexibility such that BHAN435 will only need to be offered in the spring semesters.

Describe the rationale for the proposed program change(s):

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

KAAP309 Retitled:  This proposal is coupled to a proposal to change the name of KAAP309 from Preclinical Anatomy and Physiology I to Human Anatomy and Physiology I.  The new name is clearer and better aligned with the requirements of many graduate programs to which those who take these courses are likely to apply.

KAAP475: This course is being added to the minor as an option for BHAN435 because either of these courses provides the desired content for this minor.

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)

MINOR IN STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
This minor is designed to provide students with in depth understanding of the theory and practical considerations associated with physical training to enhance strength and conditioning. Students successfully completing the minor will be prepared to take the Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification examination offered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Students applying for the minor must have completed at least one semester of full time study with a minimum GPA of 2.25. Enrollment in the minor for at least four semesters is necessary due to sequencing of courses. A grade of C- or better in required courses is needed for successful completion of the minor.
