Note: all graduate studies proposals must include an electronic copy of the Graduate Program Policy Document, highlighting the changes made to the original policy document.

List new courses required for the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?

(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)

None

Explain, when appropriate, how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/

The two additional laboratory courses (1 credit each) enhance the quality of the experiential (hands-on learning).

Describe the rationale for the proposed program change(s):

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

HESC488 and HESC489 laboratory courses have been added in association with HESC480 and HESC481, respectively, to supplement lecture material with a sufficient hands-on laboratory experience.  Both will serve as co-requisite classes.

HESC420 is being changed from 4 to 5 credit hours to more accurately reflect the time required in the laboratory for cadaveric dissections.

The change to HESC420 and the addition of HESC488 and HESC489 will increase the “major” credit hours from 88 to 91.  In maintaining the 120 hour minimum credits to graduate, we are deleting 3 credit hours of the 9 credit hour Humanities and Communication Breadth Requirement to accommodate the additional 3 credit hours added to major coursework.  This Breadth Requirement will now be 6 credit hours instead of 9 credit hours.

HLTH241 (an on-line course) is replacing PHIL444 which could not be offered at a time convenient for our senior students to satisfy the Humanities and Communications breadth requirement and without conflicting with their clinical (HESC459 – AT Practicum VI) requirements.
