Explain, when appropriate, how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/

In the preparation for professional medical education, this program serves to enable students to bridge the divide between the various scientific and cultural needs of the medical profession.  Curricular requirements not only include traditional pre-requisite science/medical subjects but also involve courses in humanities, social sciences, exercise science and broad based clinical/applied practical experiences.

Identify other units affected by the proposed changes:

(Attach permission from the affected units.  If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)

Individual CAS/CHEP departments (BISC, CHEM, MATH, HIST, IFST, PHYS, POSC, PSYC, SOCI, WOMS, and PHIL)

Describe the rationale for the proposed program change(s):

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

This concentration will serve to enhance the number of Thomas Jefferson Medical School admissions coming from University of Delaware students who would possess a broad based science as well as liberal arts (humanities and social sciences) background.  Additionally, it broadens the scope of professional opportunities of Exercise Science majors in medically related fields.

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
