Candidate Statement, University Faculty Senate President-Elect

As a strong advocate of faculty governance, I have served in various capacities in campus affairs over the past seventeen years, both with the Faculty Senate and the UD-AAUP chapter.  I also have served on numerous university, college, and department committees.  I believe that it is important that the faculty, through the Senate and its committees, carry out its important role in developing the academic curriculum, hiring and promoting faculty, and educating our students and the broader community.  The Faculty Senate also plays a critical role inrepresenting the faculty in university matters.  As such, the Senate is the appropriate forum for faculty representative to meet and discuss a wide range of issues that are important to the entire university community.  If elected President, I would encourage all senators to join the debate at our monthly meetings by setting aside some time each meeting for open discussion of issues of importance to the faculty.  I also would encourage all faculty tovolunteer to some serve on a Senatecommittee, which after all is where the “hard” work is done in the Senate.  For these reasons, I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve as president of the Faculty Senate
