Graduate Program Changes

2008 – 2009 Academic Year

The School of Education is proposing changes to three graduate programs.  We are requesting that all changes become effective in Fall 2009.

M.Ed. in Exceptional Children and Youth

Change course options to add electives to EDUC 679, Instructing Elementary/Middle Schoolers with Mild Disabilities requirement. Currently, EDUC 679 is required for all students.  Program change would allow students to substitute one of the following two courses depending upon their career and teaching interests:

EDUC 674, Instructional Methods in Secondary Special Education

EDUC 625, Methods and Curriculum for Individuals with Autism and Severe Disabilities

No other program changes and total credits in the program remain the same at 33 credits.

M.Ed. in Teaching English as a Second Language

Change the course number and departmental ownership for one of the required courses in the program. LING 698, Teaching English as a Second Language would become EDUC 672, Teaching English as a Second Language. Department of Linguistics supports this change.

No other program changes and total credits in the program remain the same at 33 credits.

Master of Instruction (M.I.)

Change one course – EDUC 769, Masters Portfolio: Evaluating Effectiveness -from 2 credits to 1 credit.  Add one new course - EDUC 748, Masters Portfolio: Analysis of Practice.

This would be a 1-credit course.

No other program changes, and total credits in the program remain the same at 33 credits.
