This proposal would change the name of an area studies program—from “Continental European Studies” to “European Studies.”  The latter is clearer and better reflects modern-day

Europe.   It is also more intuitive, and thus likely to be more easily found by students

searching the catalog or web.  This is a change of name only and would not alter the

content of the program.
