Hi Fred -
I have answers regarding ART 300:
The changing environment in
the industry of graphic design, interactive design, film and visual
communications dictates that we tweak our curriculum on an ongoing basis.
This change will give our students more options to explore experimental
typography from a motion graphics, moving image and
experimental standpoint. Students in Visual Communications need to have a more
interactive portfolio when they graduate.
We're renaming Art 300 Typography 3 to Art 300 Experimental Typography and
making it a VC elective that students will have an option to take. Were
decreasing on one end but increasing on the other, It evens out.
Our core curriculum in Typography still includes Type I and Type II. We
believe strongly in these basics for Visual Communication, along with Form and
Communication I and II. Beyond these foundation experiences, the students
have the option of going further with Type by selecting ART 300 from the
elective list, or they may choose another elective completely, depending on
their focus and interest of topics within the program.
Both ART 300 and ART 308 are electives for our Visual
Communication students, and they do not impact any other program within our
department. Therefore, there are no further modifications needed.
Please let me know if you need any further explanation.
Thanks!

Good morning, Janet!
I am touching base to ask if you are planning to follow up
on this if you still want this proposal processed this year. Karren and I are
working to tie up loose ends and the Senate's year has only two meetings left.
All the best,
Fred

Dear Janet,
Also, do any other programs have students take or elect Art
300 or Art 308? If so, you will need to modify those programs as well due to
the change you made in these course names.
Dutifully,
Fred
