The English Language Institute is proposing the move to the College of Arts and Science from the College of Education and Human Development to increase close academic contact with more like minded programs such as Foreign Languages and Literature, Linguistics, English, International Relations in Political Science and Area Studies Programs. The move will allow and promotes intellectual cohesion and active collaboration among departments and will facilitate research agendas, pursuit of external funding, collaborative programming, and will strengthen the ties with faculty in the English Language Institute, who have joint appointments in the Institute of Global Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences. It will also provide for better orientation and integration of undergraduates into the university community especially with regard to instructional offerings in the College of Arts and Sciences departments such as Written Communication E110. This move will reflect the commitment to building the collaborative relationships necessary to “increase the global impact of the University, and to raise its prominence in the world”.
