Beth,
That is correct as it was the standard in the past.
Thank you very much for your help.
Please keep me posted.
Best regards.

Thanks Limin; I think this will work for now.  You are saying that the physiology component in the other two courses is considered the appropriate coverage of physiology for the learning goals in the major.  Right?

Beth
I am traveling on business and right now I am only on my Blackberry so I apologize for this brief email.

Our reasoning for wanting to allow our students this option stem from the fact that both animal science classes listed have a large "physiology" component in them and we feel that giving students these options is adequate. In addition, our old major actually had the proposed options in it and inadvertently left them out.

Please let me know if there are other questions and I will try to respond as quickly as possible.

Thanks very much.

Dear Dr. Kung,

I’m writing as chair of the University Undergraduate Studies Committee of the Faculty Senate.  On Friday March 12, We will be discussing your proposal to add ANFS441 or ANFS442 to the options for BISC306 (Physiology) for the major.   This will be our last curriculum meeting of the semester, and I want your proposal to go through without a hitch—there’s no time to make any revisions.

But in reading the proposal in preparation for our last meeting, I don’t see a clear rationale for why 441 or 442 can be considered good options for BISC306.  I’m afraid the committee will reject your proposal without such a rationale—they may want to know, for instance, why your department believes that these specific physiology courses could meaningfully replace a more general physiology course.  I think it would help if you could write an email addendum to your proposal, in which you explain why this is a reasonable thing to do?

Please know that our committee *does* trust faculty to make reasonable curriculum decisions—we won’t second guess them.  However, we do want to see the academic rationales for proposals like yours.  I’m sorry for the rush, but do you think you could send an email in the next day or so?  This needent be more than one or two sentences….please call if you  have questions:  x8377.

Beth
