University Faculty Senate Retiring, Retired, and Emerti Faculty Sub-Committee of the Faculty Senate Welfare and Privileges Committee

The University Faculty Senate Subcommittee on Retiring, Retired, and Emeriti Faculty met in November of 2007 to discuss health care benefits for retired faculty. This discussion included proposed eligibility rules for new University faculty that would be applied to all current and retired faculty after five years. The subcommittee recommended that the AAUP agree to add five years of required service to retain health benefits for faculty over 55 years of age which would affect relatively few faculty members, and yet help lessen future health costs which will affect all faculty, current and retired.
